Red Velvet Birthday

RECIPE! 

CUPCAKES:

• 1 cup shortening
• 1 3/4 cup sugar
• 2 1/4 cup cake flour
• 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 2 eggs (*3 eggs*)
• 1 cup (*plus 2 tablespoons*) buttermilk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 teaspoon (*3/4 teaspoon*) baking soda
• 1 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
• 1 ounce red food color
• 1 1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder 

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:

• 1 1/2 packages cream cheese (12 ounces)
• 3/4 cup butter
• 1 1/2 pounds powdered sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoons vanilla

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees (*375 degrees for high altitude*). 
2. In your mixing bowl cream together the shortening and sugar. In a large liquid measuring cup, combine the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, baking soda, vinegar, and salt. Add the flour into the mixing bowl in three additions, alternating with the wet ingredients. Start and end with the flour. Once combined, stir together the red food color and cocoa powder in a small bowl. Add into the batter and mix just until incorporated.  
3. Divide the batter into muffin tins with liners, filling each with about 1/4 cup of batter. Bake for 15-17 minutes (*12-15 minutes*) or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for a few minutes and then remove from the pan to cool completely.  
4. While the cupcakes are cooling, make the cream cheese frosting. In your mixing bowl fitted with the paddle, cream together the butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add the vanilla and salt and mix until incorporated. Add the powdered sugar in three additions and mix until smooth.

Hey!

This week's post is one of my favorites so far because I am crazy for this color (coral/salmon)and the ZARA shoes!! they create great outfits, even if you wear them with a LBD they will look amazing and make it look summer-like and colorful. Also, this outfit shows another BASIC: The Trench.
You can wear your trench during the summer for those chilly rainy afternoons, because even if the summer is suppose to be warm, it is also the rainy season. A trench is the perfect option because it is light and you can match it with everything! (that's why is a basic).
My advice for this week, show any color heels you have and mix them with a neutral outfit (black,white,beige,cream...)they will make heads turn, I promise! and don't forget your trench if you live in a city where weather is crazy and might rain or get chilly in the afternoon.

This week I would like to share my love for the H&M conscious collection. There is nothing I appreciate more than brands taking care of the environment, so when I heard about this collection, I just had to have it! Like you know, the "Go Green" trend is getting bigger and bigger so of course the fashion industry is not getting behind with it and I think we should embrace it!
We need to take care of our planet and give a little back to mother nature every time we can, so, my advice: If you see a conscious collection, do buy it instead of the regular collection! (your children will thank you one day).
In the mean time, check out H&M budget accessible collection, they have many colors and models, so I am sure you'll find something amazing to go with your personal style.

Hello again!!
On my last post I talked about our classic LBD, and I promised I would talk more about "The Basics", so here is another one: THE WHITE SHIRT!
Carolina Herrera even created a unique collection of white shirts called "White Shirt Collection, this collection was basically based on her own lifestyle line. Why all the fuzz? you might wonder? It's simple! you can wear it with anything, anytime, anywhere!
Like the LBD, the white shirt can look casual and quite elegant depending on what items you match it with, for example, I was just obsessed with Saint Laurent's Spring 2013 collection (personally it was my favorite collection for Spring 2013) so, for this post I chose to play with my silken white shirt  and add a silken black bow to follow  Saint Laurent's trend, also, you might notice my big black hat. This black hat is my baby this season, I just love it! I think it is a great accessory and easy to match with many outfits, and hey! it also protects you from those awful UV rays that can damage your skin forever.
If you do like this look, start looking for a pretty hat that will suit you and protect you this spring and summer.
As for the white shirt, when you find the one that suits you, try buying more than one because it is a classic and a basic that will never be out of style and I am sure, you'll be using it a lot! also, look for quality when it comes to these pieces (Basics), I assure you they are worth every penny!

The trend for nail colors this season is mainly white, I love it! It really enlightens your hands and it looks amazing with either silver or gold accessories.

This season I became really obsessed with skirts with ruffles, I believe is a MUST for this spring. This one here is probably my favorite one. I found it in Zara and I fell in love with it from the moment I saw it. What I like the most is the way I can play with it; I can make it very fancy and elegant, or more casual and fun.  In this outfit I decided to combine various styles, giving it an edgy touch with my M.M. Margiela pumps, an elegant tone with my Valentino Lacca Bow handbag, and bringing it down to casual with this red V-neck sweater from Express. I really had fun choosing this outfit; you don’t imagine how many combinations I was able to put together! So go out there and I find your cute little ruffled skirt for this spring, and have lots of fun!

This is the first outfit I picked for our blog because I am a big fan of "The Basics", like you will see throughout the blog I like to mix "The Basics" with seasonal things to make them look different each time. In this case I have to admit that my Little Black Dress (LBD) is not from the latest H&M collection but when it comes to a LBD is doesn't really matter! It only matters that you like how it looks on you. The Little Black Dress is a concept and it's universal, which means there's one perfect for everybody, you only need to find yours. I also need to confess that I possess more than one LBD haha nevertheless, this is the last one I bought, I fell in love with the back of this dress and how it fell loosely, I feel that somehow it reflect my personality and my style.
Once you have chosen your LBD you can play with different accessories to make it look unique each time you wear it! In this case for example, I added a golden belt (this season the golden and silver belt are a must for me) and an orange bag, (which if you haven't noticed yet, it's one of the favorite colors for this summer 2013). So, wherever you are, if you decide to take a stylish break with your friends, your family or by yourself (why not?)... Don't be afraid to play with colors and accessories to make your LBD unique
